Chatting with the Chaplain
Some years ago I was competing in a long distance cross country race. The course was confusing so most runners just tried to follow the person in front of them. I had pretty much completed the race when I noticed that I couldn’t see any runners in front of me and I wasn’t sure which way to go.
I asked a race official who was standing near where I was lost, “Around and in. Correct?”
“Yes.” He replied.
In other words, one more small lap around a section of the field and then it was on to the finish line. Most of us here at Valley View Village have about finished our race. For us it is truly “around and in.”
This doesn’t mean our lives are over and we should sit around and do nothing, because every distance runner knows that races are often won or lost at the end of the course. Therefore, we need to finish strong. This means we need to continue serving, loving, helping–in short, doing God’s work and living for Him.
So let us persevere, because soon we will cross the finish line into His waiting arms.
