In 1989, a need was identified by Elim Care, the parent company of the Elim Homes. We began to realize that the relationship between us and our vendors was not the type of relationship we felt was most effective in meeting our expectations for quality products and services. One of our homes would pay one price for a product while another home would pay a different price for the same product from the same vendor. In addition, proper credit memos were not being applied, requiring staff time to track and check on billing. We also discovered that pricing would fluctuate from invoice to invoice or that the price of a product would change without any notice to the facility. Upon checking with other facilities in the industry, we became aware that this was not an uncommon situation. With the importance of staying within a budget, we realized this was an opportunity to bring stability to a very unstable area of customer service.
At the same time, Elim Care developed Elim Shores, an independent senior apartment complex in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. A program was initiated which allowed us to deal directly with the manufacturers of furniture, carpeting, draperies, kitchen equipment as well as a variety of other items. The results were revealing. A 50% savings from the budgeted figures was realized and an opportunity became a reality, bringing about the birth of Elim Preferred Services, Inc.
The same process has been utilized to develop a full line of medical products coupled with our "Service in the Spirit of Excellence" evolving to the point where Elim Preferred Services is now truly a full service supplier to the long term care industry.
