Learning Opportunities
Preschool Program
Elim Children’s Center is a Christian based Early Learning Center for ages 2 through Pre-K along with School Age summer program. Elim Children’s Center is devoted to nurturing all aspects of young children, from physical and mental development to spiritual and social well-being.
Curriculum
We provide a child-oriented curriculum where children learn through play and exploration. Days are filled with both planned and spontaneous moments of learning. There is time for active outdoor play, imaginative games, independent discovery and group activities.
We use Innovations curriculum. It is an environmental based curriculum. This means that each classroom is divided into centers including art, blocks, dramatic play, writing, manipulatives, math, science, music and library. The items in these centers directly correlate with the theme of the week. The children are encouraged to explore and learn through play as well as small group activities.
Our handwriting curriculum is Handwriting without Tears. This is the same curriculum that Fargo Public Schools uses to teach handwriting. The preschool children are learning the letter shapes and small motor control. Later in the school year they concentrate on the correct letter formation using both capital and lower case letters.
We also incorporate Bible Study, Music and Movement and Health and Nutrition into each week. We also take advantage of our intergenerational setting to interact with the residents at Elim Care in organized and spontaneous activities. It is really neat to see the JOY the older and younger generations bring to each other.
School Age Program
Adventure Kids
School age care is provided for children ages 5 to 10 during the summer and on non-school days.
We try to meet both the child’s need for independence while also meeting the parent’s need for a safe and secure environment. All of the activities and materials are geared toward the abilities of school age children. Some examples include: gardening, cooking, field trips, games, extended projects, Little Buddies, as well as daily activities with the residents of Elim Care.
